A New York Notice of Appeal (General) is a document filed with the court to initiate an appeal in a legal case. There are two types of New York Notice of Appeal (General): Civil and Criminal. In a Civil Notice of Appeal, the appellant is asking the court to review a decision made by a lower court, while in a Criminal Notice of Appeal, the appellant is asking the court to review a conviction or sentence handed down by a lower court. The Notice of Appeal must include the names of the parties involved, the name of the court being appealed to, the date the notice of appeal is filed, and a description of the order or judgment being appealed. The Notice must also include a certificate of service verifying that a copy of the Notice has been served on all parties involved in the case. Once a Notice of Appeal has been filed, the appellant must then file a briefing schedule with the court.
