New York Order of Adoption (Private Placement) is a legal process that allows an adoptive parent to place a child with an already identified prospective adoptive parent without involving the Department of Social Services (DSS). This type of adoption is sometimes referred to as a “private adoption” or a “direct placement.” The adoptive parent must file a petition in the court of the county where the adoptive parent resides to obtain an order of adoption. The court will review the petition and either approve or deny it. The New York Order of Adoption (Private Placement) is further divided into two types: an “Agreed OrdeadoptionoAgrarianrgreeneededed reed Order of Adoption.” An Agreed Order of Adoption requires both the birth parents and the adoptive parents to agree to the placement and sign the order. An Agreed Order of Adoption involves the court ordering the placement despite the birth parents’ objection. In both cases, the adoptive parents must submit a home study and other documents to the court. The court will then review the documents and determine whether to approve the order. Once approved, the adoptive parents can proceed with the adoption process.
