The New York Affidavit of Compliance with RTL 253 (CIV-GP-73) is a document required by the state of New York when an individual, business, or other entity wants to register a motor vehicle in the state. The affidavit is used to certify that the vehicle is in compliance with the rules and regulations outlined in the New York Vehicle and Traffic Law (RTL) section 253. The affidavit must be signed by the owner or lessee of the vehicle and must be notarized before being filed with the New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The affidavit must also include a description of the vehicle, the vehicle's VIN number, and a copy of the vehicle's current registration. The General Affidavit of Compliance is used to register a vehicle that is not a salvage vehicle. The New York Salvage Affidavit of Compliance is used to register a vehicle that is a salvage vehicle.
