New York Extension of Hybrid Accreditation is a program designed by the New York State Education Department to provide a pathway for institutions to become accredited in the state. It allows institutions to receive an extension of their existing accreditation from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Through this program, institutions can demonstrate their commitment to providing a high-quality educational experience and can become eligible to receive state funding. There are three types of New York Extension of Hybrid Accreditation: Regional Extension, National Extension, and International Extension. Regional Extension is for institutions that are accredited by a regional accrediting body, such as the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. National Extension is for institutions that are nationally accredited by an accrediting body that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, such as the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. International Extension is for institutions that are accredited by an accrediting body outside the United States that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, such as the International Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
