The New York Property Tax Refund Request is an application for taxpayers to receive a refund of any overpayment of their property taxes. This refund is based on the difference between the amount of taxes the taxpayer paid and the amount they were actually due to pay. There are two main types of New York Property Tax Refund Request: the Homeowner's Property Tax Refund Request, which is available to any homeowner who has paid more in property taxes than they were due; and the Senior Citizen Homeowner's Property Tax Refund Request, which is available to senior citizens who have paid more in property taxes than they were due. In order to apply for a refund, the taxpayer must submit a completed New York Property Tax Refund Request form to their local Department of Taxation and Finance. The taxpayer must include supporting documentation such as their most recent property tax bill, proof of payment of the taxes, and any additional documentation that is required. The Department of Taxation and Finance will review the application and determine if the taxpayer is eligible for a refund.
