The New York LMREAP-EB (Local Mitigation Risk Reduction and Emergency Assistance Program for Economic Benefit) is a program sponsored by the New York State Office of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). It provides financial and technical assistance to help local governments across New York State reduce the risk of natural disasters and prepare for and recover from them. The program is designed to reduce the impact of disasters on communities and businesses, and to create more resilient and sustainable local economies. It provides funding for projects that reduce natural disaster risk, such as flood mitigation, hazard mitigation, and emergency preparedness and response. The program is divided into three categories: Hazard Mitigation Grants, Disaster Resilience Grants, and Emergency Assistance Grants. The Hazard Mitigation Grants fund projects to reduce or eliminate the risks of future disasters, such as flood protection and debris removal. The Disaster Resilience Grants fund projects to help communities recover from disasters, such as economic development initiatives. The Emergency Assistance Grants fund projects to prepare for and respond to disasters, such as evacuation plans and emergency response training.
