The New York Authorized Signature List (Pre-licensing Course) is a six-hour course designed to prepare individuals to become authorized representatives of a New York State-licensed insurance company. The course covers a variety of topics related to the role of a signature authority, including the responsibilities of a signatory, the legal requirements for signing documents, the process for making changes to a signature list, and the procedures for the release of confidential information. The course is divided into six modules, which cover the following topics: Module 1, Understanding Signature Authority; Module 2, Signing Requirements; Module 3, Making Signature List Changes; Module 4, Document Verification; Module 5, Confidential Information Release; and Module 6, Professionalism and Ethics. There are two types of New York Authorized Signature List (Pre-licensing Course): the classroom-based version and the online version. The classroom-based version is offered through approved providers in a variety of locations throughout New York State. The online version is offered through the New York State Department of Financial Services website.
