New York Section 394 Drivers’ Schools, NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law, are courses offered by approved driving schools to help individuals become licensed drivers in New York State. The course covers all aspects of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law, including the laws governing traffic control devices, signs, signals, and markings; vehicle and traffic safety; and the rules of the road. The course also covers the proper procedures for obtaining a driver’s license and registering and insuring a vehicle. There are three types of New York Section 394 Drivers’ Schools, NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law: Basic Drivers’ Education, Defensive Drivers’ Education, and Advanced Drivers’ Education. Basic Drivers’ Education is a classroom-based course that provides an overview of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. Defensive Drivers’ Education is a more in-depth course that covers defensive driving techniques, such as accident avoidance, hazard recognition, and proper vehicle maintenance. Advanced Drivers’ Education is a hands-on course that covers advanced driving skills, such as advanced braking and cornering techniques.
