The New York NYS Firearms License Request for Public Records Exemption is a form granted by the New York State Department of State that exempts certain records related to firearms licenses from being disclosed under the state’s Freedom of Information Law (FOIL). This exemption applies to information contained in firearms licenses, including the applicant’s name, address, date of birth, and other personal identifying information. It also applies to firearms license renewal applications, and reports of lost or stolen firearms. There are three types of New York NYS Firearms License Request for Public Records Exemption: Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3. Type 1 applies to individuals who have a current or valid firearms license and want to keep their contact information private; Type 2 applies to applicants for a new firearms license who wish to keep their contact information private; and Type 3 applies to those who have lost or stolen firearms and wish to keep their contact information private.
