A New York Written Demand for Payment of Past Due Rent is a document which a landlord sends to a tenant when rent has not been paid on time. It can also be used as a warning that legal action may be taken if the tenant does not pay the rent. This demand is usually written on the landlord's letterhead and must include the tenant's name, address, the amount of the rent that is past due, and the date it is due. It must also include a statement that the tenant has a certain amount of time to pay the past due rent or the landlord will take legal action. There are two types of New York Written Demand for Payment of Past Due Rent. The first is the Three-Day Notice to Pay or Quit. This notice is typically used when a tenant has failed to pay the rent on time and gives the tenant three days to either pay the rent or move out. The second type is the Holdover Tenant Notice. This is used when a tenant has remained in the rental unit beyond the term of the lease agreement and must either pay the rent or move out within the required time period.
