A New York Sworn Statement of Removal of Barriers To Remarriage is a document used to dissolve and terminate a prior marriage in New York State. This document is filed with the Clerk of the County in which the marriage was dissolved. The sworn statement must be signed in the presence of a notary public, and must state that the parties to the marriage have resolved all issues related to the dissolution of the marriage. It is used to remove the barriers of remarriage, so that the parties can marry again in the future. There are two types of New York Sworn Statement of Removal of Barriers To Remarriage: a Joint Statement of Removal, and an Uncontested Statement of Removal. A Joint Statement is filed when both parties to the marriage agree to the dissolution.
