Ohio Garnishment of Wages is a legal process in which a creditor can collect the unpaid debt owed by a debtor. The creditor can petition the court to have a percentage of the debtor's wages garnished from their employer in order to satisfy the debt. The garnishment process begins with the filing of a lawsuit by the creditor against the debtor. Once the court orders garnishment, the employer is served with the Order of Garnishment and is required to withhold a percentage of the debtor's wages and send the withheld wages to the creditor to satisfy the debt. There are several types of Ohio Garnishment of Wages, including Child Support Wage Garnishment, Federal Tax Wage Garnishment, and Student Loan Wage Garnishment. Child Support Wage Garnishment is used when a parent fails to make court-ordered child support payments. Federal Tax Wage Garnishment is used when the IRS has assessed taxes and the debtor has failed to pay them. Lastly, Student Loan Wage Garnishment is used when a debtor has failed to make their student loan payments.
