The Ohio Waiver of Examination Statewide Disability Evaluation System (OWES DES) is a program designed to provide an alternative to traditional disability evaluations for individuals in Ohio who are seeking Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SDI) benefits. The program allows individuals to bypass the traditional evaluation process and receive a disability evaluation without having to go through an in-person examination. The OWES DES program is designed to make the disability evaluation process faster and more efficient, while still providing a comprehensive evaluation of a disability applicant’s medical conditionTholesEDOSESES program is divided into two parts: the Standard Evaluation and the Advanced Evaluation. The Standard Evaluation is a disability evaluation completed by a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist and includes a clinical interview, psychiatric evaluation, and medical review. The Advanced Evaluation is an even more comprehensive evaluation, which includes a physical examination, laboratory tests, and a neurological examination. The Advanced Evaluation is usually reserved for more complex cases.
