Oklahoma Argument is an argumentation strategy used in competitive speech and debate tournaments. It consists of an opening statement, a closing statement, and a set amount of time in-between for discussion and rebuttal. The opening statement is the argumentative position of the speaker, which is typically a detailed explanation of their position. The closing statement is a summary of the speaker's argument and a conclusion to the debate. The time limit for Oklahoma Argument is typically 5 minutes for the opening statement, 2 minutes for the closing statement, and 8 minutes for the discussion and rebuttal period. There are two types of Oklahoma Argument: Traditional and Team. Traditional Oklahoma Argument is a typical one-on-one debate between two individuals. Team Oklahoma Argument is a debate between two teams of two or three individuals. In Team Oklahoma Argument, the opening statement and closing statement are typically split up between the team members, and the discussion and rebuttal periods are divided equally between the team members.
