The Oklahoma Petition for Emergency Temporary Protective Order (EXPO) is a legal document that is used to protect victims from domestic violence and/or stalking. It is available to victims of domestic violence and/or stalking who are in imminent danger and need immediate protection. The EXPO is a civil order that requires the abuser to stay away from the victim and provides a number of protections including, but not limited to, restraining orders, orders for exclusive possession of the residence, orders for child custody or support, and orders to keep the abuser from contacting the victim. There are two types of Oklahoma Petition for Emergency Temporary Protective Order: Civil Protective Order and Emergency Protective Order. A Civil Protective Order is a court order that requires the abuser to stay away from the victim and can last up to two years. An Emergency Protective Order is a court order that is effective immediately and can last up to seven days. Both types of orders provide a number of protections for the victim including, but not limited to, restraining orders, orders for exclusive possession of the residence, orders for child custody or support, and orders to keep the abuser from contacting the victim.
