Oklahoma Registered Interpreters (ORI's) are qualified professionals who provide language interpreting services to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. ORI's are certified and registered with the Oklahoma State Department of Rehabilitation Services (OS DRS) to ensure that they meet the highest standards of professional interpreting. ORI's are highly trained in both American Sign Language (ASL) and Oral Interpretation, and they are required to adhere to the code of ethics established by the Oklahoma Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (GRID). There are three types of ORI's: Certified Interpreters (CIs), Advanced Certified Interpreters (Acid), and Master Level Interpreters (MLI's). CIs must have at least two years of interpreting experience; Acid must have at least five years of interpreting experience; and MLI's must have at least seven years of interpreting experience. All ORI's are required to pass a rigorous certification exam, which tests their skills and knowledge in both ASL and Oral Interpretation.
