The Oregon Training Plan (OTP) is an apprenticeship program administered by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) that provides employers with an affordable, effective way to recruit, train, and retain entry-level employees. The OTP combines classroom instruction and on-the-job training (OUT) to help workers gain the skills necessary to succeed in their chosen field. There are three different types of Oregon Training Plan: Registered Apprenticeship, Pre-Apprenticeship, and Youth Apprenticeship. Registered Apprenticeship is a combination of classroom instruction and on-the-job training that leads to industry-recognized credentials. It is designed to develop a well-trained, highly-skilled workforce. Pre-Apprenticeship provides participants with the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge needed to apply for and be successful in a Registered Apprenticeship program. The Youth Apprenticeship program offers high school students the opportunity to gain valuable career-readiness skills and experience in high-demand occupations while earning high school credit.
