Pennsylvania Certification is a program offered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education that provides official recognition to individuals who have met the state's high standards of education, experience, and knowledge. It is a voluntary program that is designed to enhance the quality of education in the state. There are three different types of Pennsylvania Certification: Instructional I, Instructional II, and Educational Specialist. Instructional I certification is for educators who are teaching in elementary, middle, and/or secondary schools, while Instructional II certification is for those teaching in areas such as special education, reading, and library science. Educational Specialist certification is for those who are working in higher education, such as college and university faculty, administrators, and counselors. To obtain Pennsylvania Certification, individuals must meet certain requirements, such as passing the Praxis exams, completing approved professional development courses, and holding a valid teaching certificate.
