Pennsylvania ORDER to ATTEND Mediation ORIENTATION (also known as POLO) is a court-mandated program designed to help to dispute parties resolve their conflicts through mediation. The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, which requires parties to attend a Mediation Orientation session before attending the actual mediation session. The Mediation Orientation session is a one-hour session that provides an overview of the mediation process and the roles and responsibilities of the parties involved. During the session, participants are given an introduction to the mediation process, as well as an overview of the rights and responsibilities of the disputing parties. Additionally, participants are provided with an overview of the Pennsylvania Rules of Civil Procedure and the legal implications of mediation. In Pennsylvania, there are two types of Order to Attend Mediation Orientation sessions: Mandatory and Voluntary. Mandatory sessions are required for all parties involved in a dispute, while Voluntary sessions are available to parties who are interested in learning more about the mediation process. At the conclusion of the Mediation Orientation session, the mediator will inform the parties of the next steps for the mediation process.
