Family Violence Indicator
The Pennsylvania Family Violence Indicator (PVI) is an evidence-based assessment tool used by child welfare workers to assess the risk of family violence. It is intended to help child welfare workers identify families at risk of experiencing family violence, including physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, and to refer them to appropriate services. The PVI consists of three main categories: the Domestic Violence Screener, the Intimate Partner Violence Screener, and the Child Abuse Risk Assessment. The Domestic Violence Screener is used to assess the risk of physical, psychological, or sexual abuse within relationships of family members, intimate partners, or cohabitants. It includes questions about the level of control, intimidation, threats, and violence within the relationship. The Intimate Partner Violence Screener is used to assess the risk of intimate partner violence, including physical, psychological, and sexual abuse. It includes questions about the level of control, intimidation, threats, and violence within the relationship. The Child Abuse Risk Assessment is used to assess the risk of physical, psychological, and sexual abuse towards children. It includes questions about the level of control, intimidation, threats, and violence towards children in the family. The PVI is used to assess the risk of family violence and inform the development of safety plans and referral to services. It is an important tool for child welfare workers in Pennsylvania to help ensure the safety of families.
