Pennsylvania Commutation of Compensation is a program offered by the state of Pennsylvania that allows for the conversion of a portion of a worker’s monthly Workers’ Compensation payments into a lump sum. The program is designed to provide workers with financial stability and security after an injury or illness leaves them unable to work. There are two types of Pennsylvania Commutation of Compensation: Partial Commutation and Total Commutation. Partial Commutation allows for the conversion of up to 50% of the monthly compensation payments into a lump sum, while Total Commutation allows for the conversion of 100% of the monthly payments into a lump sum. The lump sum payment is paid out over the course of three years, with the first payment being made within 90 days of the application being approved. This program is only available to those who have suffered an injury or illness that was the result of an accident or occupational disease while employed in Pennsylvania.
