What are the law's basic requirements? The Act requires employers with 18 or more employees to allow employees to accrue at least one hour of paid sick leave for every 35 hours worked, up to 24 hours in 2018. The maximum amount of leave will increase to 32 hours in 2019 and 40 hours in 2020 and subsequent years.

Overtime. Rhode Island labor laws require an employer to pay overtime to employees, unless otherwise exempt, at the rate of 1½ times the employee's regular rate of pay for all hours worked in excess of 40 hours in a workweek.
