The Rhode Island Petition For Payment of Unclaimed Funds is a petition process for individuals and businesses to claim abandoned funds that are in the possession of the state of Rhode Island. The state of Rhode Island holds these funds for a period of time, before they are transferred to the state’s General Fund if unclaimed. There are two types of Rhode Island Petition for Payment of Unclaimed Funds: Unclaimed Property and Unclaimed Funds. Unclaimed Property includes items such as safe deposit box contents, stocks, bonds, and other items of value that have been abandoned or unclaimed by an owner. Unclaimed Funds include unwashed checks, bank accounts, wages, and other monetary values that have been abandoned or unclaimed by an owner. To apply for payment of unclaimed funds, eligible individuals or businesses must submit a Rhode Island Petition for Payment of Unclaimed Funds to the Rhode Island Department of Revenue. The application must include proof of ownership and other pertinent information. The department will review the petition and, if approved, will issue a check to the petitioner.
