The Rhode Island Notary Standards of Conduct for Notaries Amended is a set of rules and regulations governing the practice of notaries in the state of Rhode Island. It contains standards to ensure that all notaries act ethically and in the public interest while performing their notarial duties. The Rhode Island Notary Standards of Conduct for Notaries Amended defines the duties and responsibilities of notaries, including but not limited to: accurately recording the facts and information of notarial acts; acting with impartiality and fairness; properly identifying the (signer) of a document; avoiding conflicts of interest; and maintaining confidentiality. The Notary Standards also outline the requirements for proper notarization of documents, including but not limited to: requiring the signer to be present; verifying the identity of the signer; properly completing the notarial act; and affixing the notary’s seal. The amended notary standards also provide guidance for notaries in the event of a dispute or complaint.
