The Rhode Island General Waiver is a program offered by the state of Rhode Island to provide individuals with disabilities with services and supports in their home and community. It is designed to help individuals with disabilities remain independent and integrated in their community and to maximize their quality of life. The Waiver provides services and supports such as home health aides, personal care attendants, respite services, transportation, home modifications, and more. There are two types of Rhode Island General Waiver: the Rhode Island Expanded General Waiver and the Rhode Island Self-Directed General Waiver. The Expanded General Waiver is for individuals who need assistance with at least two activities of daily living and have a higher level of care needs. It covers a wide range of services and supports, including many that are not covered by traditional Medicaid. The Self-Directed General Waiver is for individuals who do not need assistance with activities of daily living, but who require assistance with health-related tasks. This waiver allows participants to direct their own care and choose their own service providers.
