Pete Townshend was born 21 August 1938 at Dealing Hospital in London, England. The youngest of four children born to Thomas and Daphne Townshend, he was raised as a Jehovah's Witness. Although never a Jehovah's Witness, Pete, as a child, had a fascination with cars and a love for building model cars. In 1956, he met Peter Brampton who was a member of the Fab Four. Pete had already taken an interest in music and began to study the guitar. Pete and Brampton began a relationship that lasted until Brampton's death in 1984. Pete and Alice Cooper first met when Cooper was a young teenager and in 1965 they recorded a cover of Pete's song, 'Crying Out In Heaven', for the 'Pete Townshend Band'. Cooper and Townshend then joined the Who in 1966 and went on to record the hit singles from that album, 'Pigs (Three Different Ones)', 'I Can't Explain' and 'Baba O'Riley'. They also recorded 'In Town' and 'I Can't Explain'.
