South Carolina counterfeiting obligations of the United States is the crime of knowingly manufacturing, passing, uttering, selling, buying, exchanging, or possessing counterfeit obligations of the United States. This includes counterfeiting US coins, currency, postage stamps, bonds, checks, or any other federal obligation. It is illegal to deface or alter genuine obligations of the United States, or to make, utter, or possess counterfeit obligations with the intent to defraud. There are three types of South Carolina counterfeiting of obligations of the United States: Type 1 is counterfeiting US currency, Type 2 is counterfeiting postage stamps, and Type 3 is counterfeiting other federal obligations.
