South Carolina FOOD STAMP FRAUD is the intentional misuse of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits meant to help low-income individuals and families access healthy food. The most common types of fraud include trafficking SNAP benefits, double-dipping, misrepresenting income and household size, selling SNAP benefits for cash, and using SNAP benefits at ineligible locations. Trafficking SNAP benefits is the illegal exchange of benefits for cash by SNAP recipients. Double-dipping is when a SNAP recipient receives benefits for multiple households. Misrepresenting income and household size is when a SNAP recipient purposely misrepresents information to receive more benefits than they are eligible for. Selling SNAP benefits for cash is when a SNAP recipient exchanges their benefits for cash. Lastly, using SNAP benefits at ineligible locations is when a SNAP recipient uses their benefits at locations that are not approved for SNAP purchases.
