Tennessee CLAIMS — Timely and Proper Filing of Claims and Exceptions (Probate) is a set of rules and procedures that must be followed when filing claims and exceptions to the probate of a decedent's estate in Tennessee. This includes filing a timely claim against the estate for unpaid debts or filing a timely exception to the probate of a decedent's Will. There are two types of Tennessee CLAIMS — Timely and Proper Filing of Claims and Exceptions (Probate): 1) Claims, and 2) Exceptions. Claims are documents filed with the probate court in which the claimant demands payment from the estate for an unpaid debt. Such claims must be filed within the designated time period or else they will be forever barred. Exceptions are documents filed with the probate court in which the filer challenges the validity of the decedent's Will or the administration of the estate. Such exceptions must also be filed within the designated time period in order to preserve the filer's rights.
