A Tennessee Expert Order of Protection is a court order issued by a judge on an expert basis, meaning it is issued without a hearing or opportunity for the other party to be present. This type of order is issued when there is an imminent danger of harm to a person due to the actions of another person. It can be issued to protect an individual from acts such as physical abuse, stalking, or harassment. There are two types of Tennessee Expert Order of Protection: Temporary and Permanent. A Temporary Order of Protection is issued for a specified period of time, usually between 10 days and 6 months, and can be extended by the court if necessary. A Permanent Order of Protection is issued for a longer period of time, usually up to one year, and can also be extended by the court if needed. The court order can include terms such as the accused must stay away from the protected person, refrain from any contact with the protected person, and/or surrender any firearms they have in their possession. A violation of a Tennessee Expert Order of Protection can result in criminal charges.
