Tennessee Order of Publication — Divorce is a process required by the state of Tennessee in order to serve a Defendant in a divorce action who is not living in the state. If the Defendant is not a resident of the state, the court will require that the Petitioner publish a notice in a newspaper of general circulation in the county where the Petitioner resides. This is to give the Defendant reasonable notice of the divorce action. There are two types of Tennessee Order of Publication — Divorce: Publication of Summons and Publication of Complaint. Publication of Summons requires a notice to be published in a newspaper of general circulation in the county where the Petitioner resides, informing the Defendant of the divorce action and providing the Defendant with an opportunity to appear and answer the complaint. Publication of Complaint requires a notice to be published in a newspaper of general circulation in the county where the Petitioner resides, informing the Defendant of the divorce action and providing the Defendant with an opportunity to appear and defend the action.
