Tennessee Supplemental Order of Probation (TOP) is a court-ordered probation program that is available to certain individuals who have been convicted of a crime in the state of Tennessee. TOP is an alternative to incarceration, allowing an offender to remain in the community while still providing supervision and conditions that are intended to ensure public safety. There are four types of Tennessee Supplemental Order of Probation: Probation, Supervised Probation, Intensive Supervised Probation, and Drug Court. Probation is a court-ordered program of supervision that allows an offender to remain in the community while meeting certain conditions, such as meeting regularly with a probation officer, attending counseling or treatment sessions, and performing community service. Supervised Probation is a more intensive version of Probation, with additional conditions such as more frequent probation officer meetings, drug/alcohol testing, and educational/vocational classes. Intensive Supervised Probation is an even more rigorous level of supervision, with additional conditions such as electronic monitoring, curfews, and random drug/alcohol testing. Finally, Drug Court is an intensive treatment program that requires offenders to complete drug/alcohol treatment and attend support groups.
