A Tennessee Notice to Appeal is a document filed with the Tennessee Court of Appeals in order to initiate an appeal of a lower court's ruling. It is a notice stating the appellant's intention to appeal and provides the court and opposing parties with information about the appeal. There are two types of Tennessee Notice to Appeal: General Notice and Specific Notice. General Notice is used when the appellant is appealing the decision of a lower court but does not yet know the exact grounds for the appeal. The notice must include the name of the court where the case was heard, names of the parties involved, the case number, and the date of the lower court's ruling. Specific Notice is used when the appellant knows the exact grounds for the appeal. In addition to the information required for a General Notice, the Specific Notice must include a statement of the specific issues, errors, or objections that are being appealed. Both types of Tennessee Notice to Appeal must be served on all parties involved in the case and must be filed with the Tennessee Court of Appeals within 30 days of the lower court's ruling. If the Notice is not filed within the 30-day period, the appellant's appeal may be dismissed.
