A Tennessee Petition for Contempt is a legal document used in family law proceedings to ask the court to hold a person in contempt of court for violating orders that are in place. This document is typically used when a party fails to comply with court orders such as paying child support, following parenting plans, and other court orders. There are three types of Tennessee Petitions for Contempt: Contempt for Nonpayment of Support, Contempt for Violation of Parenting Plan, and Contempt for Violation of Other Court Orders. In each type, the Petitioner must provide the court with evidence of the Respondent’s violation of court orders and request that the court take action to enforce the order. The court will then review the Petition and decide whether it is appropriate to hold the Respondent in contempt. If the court does find the Respondent in contempt, they may order payment of a fine or imprisonment.
