A Tennessee Petition For Orders of Protection is a legal document used in Tennessee courts to protect people from domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, or other forms of abuse. It is used to put restrictions on the abuser to protect the victim, such as prohibiting contact, requiring the abuser to stay away from the victim's residence or work, or ordering the abuser to attend counseling or other treatment. The Petition is usually filed in the Circuit or Chancery Court of the county where the victim resides. There are two types of Tennessee Petition For Orders of Protection: an Ex Parte Order of Protection and a Final Order of Protection. An Ex Parte Order of Protection is a temporary order issued without a hearing. It is usually granted quickly and can be issued if the victim is in immediate danger. A Final Order of Protection is a permanent order that is issued after a hearing. It can last for up to one year, but can be extended for additional periods of time.
