The Tennessee Application for Change of Assumed Name (also known as the Assumed Name Certificate) is a document filed with the Tennessee Secretary of State in order to register a business name in the state of Tennessee. This document is used to register an assumed, fictitious, or "doing business as" name, which is the name a business uses to conduct business that is different from its legal name. There are two types of Tennessee Applications for Change of Assumed Name: a regular application and a limited liability company (LLC) application. The regular application is used to register an assumed name for any type of business entity, such as a sole proprietorship, partnership, LLC, or corporation. The LLC application is used to register an assumed name for an LLC. Both applications require information such as the assumed name, the legal name of the business, and the address of the business.
