Request for Investigation A Tennessee Request for Investigation (TRI) is a form used to initiate an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). It is used by law enforcement agencies, medical examiners, prosecutors, and other public entities to request TBI assistance in the investigation of criminal offenses or suspicious circumstances. There are two types of TRI: (1) an investigative TRI, which requests assistance from the TBI to investigate potential criminal activity; and (2) an administrative TRI, which requests TBI assistance with administrative tasks such as evidence collection or training. The TRI must include specific information about the incident, including the date, time, location, description of the incident, and the names and contact information of any witnesses. The requester must also clearly state the purpose of the investigation and provide any additional relevant information.
