Texas Statement of Transcript Redaction (also known as Texas Education Code Section 28.009 Redaction) is a process that provides students in Texas with the right to request the redaction of certain information from their high school and college transcripts. The redaction process applies to all public and private high schools and higher educational institutions in the state of Texas. The Texas Education Code Section 28.009 provides the specific criteria and procedures for redaction. Texas Statement of Transcript Redaction is available for any student who graduated from a Texas high school within the last 10 years. The specific information that can be redacted includes any reference to a suspension or expulsion, any information related to a juvenile justice proceeding, any reference to a criminal or civil action, or any reference to an honor code violation. There are two types of Texas Statement of Transcript Redaction: student initiated redaction and school initiated redaction. Student initiated redaction occurs when the student submits a written request to the school to redact any of the eligible information listed above. School initiated redaction occurs when the school proactively redacts the information from the student’s transcript without a request from the student.
