Texas Sex Offender Registration is a legal requirement for individuals convicted of certain sex offenses. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the Sex Offender Registration Program, which requires individuals convicted of certain sex offenses to register their personal information with the State. Depending on the severity of the offense, individuals may be required to register for life or for a specified period of time. There are three types of Sex Offender Registration in Texas: Lifetime Registration, Ten-Year Registration, and Five-Year Registration. Lifetime Registration applies to individuals convicted of certain particularly serious sex offenses, such as aggravated sexual assault and continuous sexual abuse of a child. Ten-Year Registration applies to individuals convicted of certain second-degree sex offenses, such as indecency with a child and aggravated kidnapping with the intent to commit a sexual offense. Five-Year Registration applies to individuals convicted of certain third-degree sex offenses, such as prostitution and public lewdness.
