Texas Protective Order (Appendix A to Miscellaneous Order No. 62) is a court order issued by a Texas court to protect a person from family violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking. The order may be issued to prevent an imminent act of violence or to protect a victim of past abuse. There are three types of Texas Protective Order (Appendix A to Miscellaneous Order No. 62): Temporary Ex Parte Protective Order, Temporary Protective Order, and Permanent Protective Order. A Temporary Ex Parte Protective Order is issued without giving the accused an opportunity to be heard. This order is valid for up to 20 days and can be extended. It can be amended or dissolved by the court. A Temporary Protective Order is issued after hearing from both parties and is valid for up to 31 days. It can be extended, amended, or dissolved by the court. A Permanent Protective Order is issued after a full hearing and is valid for up to two years. It can be extended, amended, or dissolved by the court. The Texas Protective Order (Appendix A to Miscellaneous Order No. 62) requires the accused to stay away from the protected person, refrain from communication with the protected person, and abide by other orders specified by the court. It also requires the accused to surrender any weapons and firearms.
