A Texas Abstract of Judgment is a document that is filed with the county clerk in Texas to enforce a judgment against a debtor. It creates a lien against the debtor’s real estate, personal property, and/or wages. The document is typically issued by the court in which the judgment was rendered and includes the names of the parties, the amount of the judgment, the court’s docket number, and the date the judgment was rendered. There are two types of Texas Abstract of Judgment: an Enforceable Abstract of Judgment and a Non-Enforceable Abstract of Judgment. An Enforceable Abstract of Judgment is enforceable for ten years from the date it was issued and can be renewed for an additional ten-year period. A Non-Enforceable Abstract of Judgment is not enforceable and does not create a lien against the debtor’s real estate, personal property, or wages.
