Absences that are considered EXCUSED (with a parent or doctor's note) under Texas State Law: When a student is absent, the parent must provide a note that explains the reason for the absence within 3 school days after the student returns to school.

Texas Government Code, Section 661.202, states that an employee, without deduction in salary, is entitled to sick leave when sickness, injury, or pregnancy and confinement prevent the employee's performance of duty.

Companies can require employees to turn in a doctor's note when they are off for more than three consecutive absences and cite sickness as the reason.

The Texas sick leave law allows state employees to accrue eight hours of sick time benefit per month. Part-time employees are also given the sick leave benefit at a proportionate rate. A different rule applies to state employees in higher education institutions.
