Texas Drug Offender's Reinstatement of Federal Benefits is a program designed to provide individuals convicted of certain drug offenses with the opportunity to restore their eligibility for certain federal benefits, including Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and food stamps. The program is available to individuals who have been convicted of certain offenses under the Texas Controlled Substances Act and have completed their sentence or have been discharged from parole or probation. It does not apply to individuals currently on probation or parole or to individuals who are in the Deferred Adjudication Program. The program includes two parts: 1) the Application Process, which requires the applicant to submit an application to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for consideration, and 2) the Restoration of Benefits, which requires the applicant to demonstrate that he/she has met the eligibility criteria and has made efforts to become a productive and responsible citizen. The types of Texas Drug Offender's Reinstatement of Federal Benefits include Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and food stamps.
