The Texas Notice of Maximum Medical Improvement and Permanent Impairment (TX MMI & PI) is a document issued by the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) to inform a claimant of their medical condition, the amount of disability benefits they are entitled to, and the estimated time they will be able to work and earn income. It is issued once a doctor has determined that a claimant has reached a point of maximum medical improvement and is not likely to improve further from their injury. The TX MMI & PI is used to determine the amount of disability benefits the claimant is eligible for and the amount of time they can work without risking their disability status. The TX MMI & PI is divided into two types: one for occupational disability and one for non-occupational disability. The occupational disability TX MMI & PI is used to determine the amount of time a claimant can work and earn income while still receiving their disability benefits. The non-occupational disability TX MMI & PI is used to determine the amount of permanent impairment and any corresponding loss of earning capacity associated with the disability. In addition to disability benefits, the TX MMI & PI can also be used to determine eligibility for other benefits such as Social Security Disability Insurance (SDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). The TX MMI & PI also indicates the expected date of return to work and any other limitations or restrictions associated with the disability.
