The 17.25 Definition: Alongshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act "Covered Place of Injury" refers to the places in which an employee may be injured while performing their duties. This definition includes areas such as docks, piers, wharves, vessels, dry docks, terminals, waterfront facilities, and any other areas along the navigable waters of the United States, including its tributaries, and any adjoining pier, wharf, dry dock, terminal, facility, or other area customarily used by an employer in loading, unloading, repairing, dismantling, or building a vessel. This definition also includes navigable waters of the United States, which is defined as a body of water capable of being traversed by a vessel and includes all navigable waters of the Great Lakes system, including the Great Lakes and connecting waters.
