CJA Form 20 Appointment of and Authority to Pay Court-Appointed Counsel is a form used in the United States federal court system. It is used to appoint and authorize counsel to receive payment for services provided to a criminal defendant on behalf of the court. There are two types of CJA Form 20 Appointment of and Authority to Pay Court-Appointed Counsel: CJA 20A and CJA 20B. CJA Form 20A is used to appoint counsel to represent a defendant in cases where the defendant is financially unable to obtain counsel. The form is signed by the court and counsel is then appointed to the case. CJA Form 20B is used to authorize payment for an attorney who was already appointed to a case. It is also used to authorize payment for other services related to a case such as expert witness fees or travel expenses related to a trial. The form is signed by the court and payment is authorized. In both cases, CJA Form 20 Appointment of and Authority to Pay Court-Appointed Counsel must be completed and signed by the court before payment can be made.
