Official Form The CJA 27 Excess Compensation Statement is a form required by the United States District Court for all court-appointed attorneys representing indigent defendants. The form requires attorneys to report any excess compensation or reimbursement received in connection with a criminal case in which they were appointed counsel. The form must be filed within ninety (90) days of receipt of the excess payment. There are two types of CJA 27 Excess Compensation Statements: the CJA 27 Fee Form and the CJA 27 Expense Form. The CJA 27 Expense Form is used to report excess expenses associated with the representation of an indigent defendant.
