2.30 Unlawful Importation / 18 U.S.C. Sec. 545 (Second Paragraph) is a federal law that prohibits the importation of goods into the United States from any foreign country by any means contrary to law. This law applies to any goods that are brought into the United States without lawful permission from the U.S. government or any foreign government. This includes merchandise that is smuggled, counterfeit, stolen, or otherwise illegally imported. There are two types of unlawful importation: (1) smuggling, and (2) trafficking in counterfeit goods.
