Assaulting or Intimidating a Flight Crew of an Aircraft in the United States without a dangerous weapon is a federal offense. In the United States, there are three main types of offenses under the law relating to Assaulting or Intimidating a Flight Crew of an Aircraft without a dangerous weapon. These are Interference with Flight Crew Members or Flight Attendants, Intimidation of a Flight Crew Member or Flight Attendant, and Interference with a Flight Crew Member or Flight Attendant in the Performance of Duties. Interference with Flight Crew Members or Flight Attendants without a dangerous weapon involves any physical act or verbal statement that disrupts the performance of the crew member or flight attendant's duties. Examples of such acts include pushing, shoving, grabbing, blocking, shouting, or making threatening or intimidating gestures. Intimidation of a Flight Crew Member or Flight Attendant without a dangerous weapon involves threatening or intimidating a crew member or flight attendant with physical harm or death, or making a threat of harm or death to a passenger or another crew member. Interference with a Flight Crew Member or Flight Attendant in the Performance of Duties without a dangerous weapon involves interfering with the performance of a crew member or flight attendant's duties, such as interfering with the operation of aircraft equipment, preventing the crew member or flight attendant from performing their duties, or otherwise disrupting the orderly operation of the aircraft. All of these offenses are punishable under federal law, and can result in large fines, jail time, and other penalties.
