Providing Material Support to Terrorists 18 U.S.C. Sec. 2339A is a federal law that criminalizes the act of providing material support or resources to designated foreign terrorist organizations. This law prohibits providing such support or resources knowingly and with the intent of furthering the terrorist organization’s activities. There are three types of material support prohibited by this law: (1) any type of tangible support such as weapons, money, personnel, and other physical items; (2) services such as training, expert advice, and transportation; and (3) resources such as communications and other intangible items. Violators of this law face up to 15 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000. This law applies to all US citizens and foreign nationals located within the United States, as well as any US citizens and foreign nationals located abroad who act within the scope of US jurisdiction.
